Dave is the founder of Dave Wnuck Numismatics. He has specialized in early US coinage since 1977.
Dave earned a dual degree in Industrial Engineering and Business Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts in just 3.5 years.
Since that time, Dave has become a full-time professional numismatist and a recognized authority in the numismatic marketplace. He has given numerous interviews about coins to journalists both inside and outside of the coin hobby.
He has done appraisals for the US Marshals Service and several museums, along with countless banks, estates, lawyers and individuals.
While still in high school, his paper on US coins won the American Numismatic Association’s Junior Literary Award in 1978. That led to his first of two scholarship awards for travel and tuition to the ANA’s annual Summer Seminars at their Colorado Springs headquarters.
He has written articles (and has been interviewed about) early US gold and colonial coinage. He has twice been a panelist on the well-respected Rosen Numismatic Advisory’s Annual Crystal Ball team and a regular participant as a coin appraiser on Connecticut Public Television’s Antiques Appraisal Day show.
You will also find Dave’s name listed in the front of the Guide Book of United States Coins (a.k.a. “The Redbook”, considered to be the “bible” of the US coin hobby), as one of the contributing experts. Since the first edition was published in 1947, the Redbook has become one of the best selling books of all time, with over 22 million copies sold.
Dave Wnuck has been voted in to membership in the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG).
The PNG is a nonprofit organization composed of the world’s top rare coin dealers, paper money and precious metals dealers and numismatic experts. Membership requirements are strict. Members must adhere to a strict Code of Ethics in the buying and selling of numismatic merchandise.
Specifically, PNG members must:
If an applicant meets the eligibility criteria, the applicant’s name will be submitted to all PNG regular members for approval. The Executive Director will transmit to the Board the names of all applicants approved by the membership, and the Board will vote whether to admit each such applicant to membership. If accepted, dues are $1,250 per year.
Because of these stringent membership requirements, there are only a few hundred coin dealers worldwide who can claim membership. You can find out more about this organization and its members at http://pngdealers.org
In addition, Dave is a member of the following numismatic organizations, among others:
When you schedule a meeting to appraise or sell your coin collection, we take the issue of safety very seriously. We meet in a boardroom (see the photo above) with a huge conference table, to maintain a minimum of 6 feet of separation at all times. During the entire time, owner & appraiser Dave Wnuck wears a mask and gloves. We will provide you with masks and gloves if you need them. Washroom facilities are close at hand.
Do not clean your coins in any way. Do not wipe them, wash them, dip them in a chemical, brush them, etc. You cannot make them more valuable by doing so, but you can certainly hurt their value quite a bit. Coin collectors prefer their coins tarnished & “dirty”.
